Plot:
It’s Christmas Eve, a lawyer and an
unsavory associate swindle the local mob out of $2 million. The movie is
played out over the time they are stranded from a planned departure by
an ice storm.
Review:
This film fails in many ways. It fails as
a comedy. It delivers little humor in the plight of a sleazy mob lawyer
and his accomplish in theur attempt to evade the retaliation of
the mob who they have stolen from. If you like black comedy you might
find some humor, however I find little humor in what is little more than
the main character, Charlie Arglist (John Cusack), trying to kill some
time before his impending escape. During the delay his wandering is what
might be expected given the setting and the characters involved. No real
surprises. As a character Vic Cavanaugh (Billy Bob Thornton) has no
dept. Cavanaugh is shady character who is unaffected by senseless
violence and offers little to the plot other than the viewer is never
sure what to expect from him.
Like any drama this movie is turbulent or highly emotional. But the
characters draw little sympathy. They are cold and self centered and the
viewer may find they care little it they succeed or fail.
If your into black comedy this movie may be for you.
