Computer contact with  a two-dimensional world

Review:

I first read this book after its initial publication in 1984 and have recently read it again. The author Alexander Dewdney tells the story of how in his computer science class at the University of Western Ontario, while working on a project designing a 2D world, something extraordinary happened. One of the creatures in the program began to evolve. A four armed Ardean named Yndrd and his alien world began to appear.

The book is so well put together and the physical aspects of a 2D world so well researched that it leaves one wondering if this really happened. I and many others have been delighted by this book. All 6 reviewers on Amazon have given this book a deserving 5 stars out of 5.
